The Bachelor #12
by Kelly on March 17th, 2008
There are so many reality shows on tv now helping people get a jumpstart to their acting, singing, dancing, weightloss, style, and even love life. My own guilty pleasure…the Bachelor. Can you believe that tonight kicks off Season #12? I rarely admit to watching it because it is such mindless tv and I feel embarrassed for liking it. It’s not that I secretly want to be on the show or secretly wish that my boyfriend could be that overwhelmingly romantic. I think I would laugh at him if he tried a lot of the stuff they do on the show, I’d think he was cheesy and obviously not my type. The girls on the show eat it up though, the gossip, romance, dream guy, everything. That’s why when the show ends and he picks the girl of his dreams, it typically fizzles after 2 weeks when they are back in the real world. It is hard to be the perfect man when you don’t have a crew of 50 making sure your hair is laying perfectly, dress you to accentuate all the right parts of you, create dream evenings complete with music and rose petals. I think that the portion of the show that most women, like myself, enjoy is that you watch it hanging out with your girl friends and comment about every little thing that happens. What Reality show do you admit to watching?
Narrowed Down to 16 Contestants
by Kelly on March 6th, 2008

American Idol Season 7 has already narrowed down the contestants to 16 individuals, tonight 2 more will go home. I feel like I watch it at the beginning of the season when it’s the really bad contestants trying out and I watch it(hear about it) when it’s narrowed down to 3 or 4 singers. Since I lived in Birmingham, AL for the past 6 years, I had to at least hear about it since we had so many idols from there. My favorite from Birmingham (Hueytown) was Bo Bice, even though he was a runner up. I’m glad Carrie Underwood ended up winning because she has done a lot since she won, unlike some other contestants. I thought it was so funny when Fantasia, the Season 3 winner, came out with her single, Baby Mama. That song would just get in my head for some reason and it was a really annoying song.
Season 4: Making the Band
by Kelly on March 5th, 2008

Seriously…there is another season. I have to admit I did watch the first season, I think the fun part is watching them narrow down the contestants, like American Idol, it’s everyone’s favorite part. It makes the contestants try harder when they know that they are up against other singers and that they need to do their best every time they sing. It was also more interesting and not so whiny. Now I feel like the singers complain through the whole show and aren’t as appreciative of the opportunity of creating songs for Diddy. I can’t believe it’s on for another season, it wasn’t that great the first time I don’t understand how they still have a show. This season will put the girls group that Diddy created against the Boys group to see who is more deserving of a contract. All the girls look so different this time, I’m not sure if it is the hair extensions, clothes, or makeup but they just seem a lot more self-centered and not quite as sweet this time around.
Dance Fever
by Kelly on March 4th, 2008

M.C. Hammer’s new dance video website launched today. The website is called Dance Jam. The site allows you to link to your friends and upload your dancing videos. I love watching people dance so I could definitely spend a lot of time watching the videos on this site. I’m not sure why I’m so fascinated by other people dancing, I just love it. This site is just in the beginning phase so there are not a lot of users yet, but it still has a lot of videos. My favorite part of the website was the tutorial videos that will teach you how to do different dances. The website has all different kinds of dances in the instructional videos dances that I have heard of like the Hammerdance, Harlem Shake, Soulja Boy, Two Step, etc. to dances that I haven’t heard of like the Willie Bounce, Lil Mama G-Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Aunt Jackie, etc.

Lightning 100 is a Nashville based radio station that streams their daily broadcast on the internet. It’s an independent radio station and plays a variety of music from new popular music to independent artists. I haven’t heard of a lot of the artists that they play, but they upload the song titles to the site so that you can figure out the song and artist names of the songs you like.

Unlimited Movie Viewing
by Kelly on January 14th, 2008
Netflix removed the online viewing limits for users today. Users will be able to watch as many movies online as they would like. Before users could only watch the number of hours of movies that corresponded with their purchase amount for the month. If a user had a $4.99 a month membership they could watch 5 hours of movies a month. Apple has been rumored to be releasing iTunes movie rentals that will be around $3.99 apiece to download. If NetFlix customers are aloud to download unlimited movies this will force apple to look for a different kind of revenue. Netflix is also releasing a set top box for users to stream movies directly to their television and eliminate the need for a disk.
Bill Me Later
by Kelly on December 11th, 2007
It’s Christmastime and all you’re thinking is how much money is leaving your bank account…hopefully the Chrismas bonus will cover it. Buying things online just got a whole lot easier. BillMeLater allows users the option to pay later at over 700 websites and will now be competing with paypal’s pay later option. The company was able to secure $640 million in dedt financing last year. The way it works is that users will enter the last four digits of their social security number and the website will run a credit report in 3 seconds. This credit report will access if you’re worth the risk to ensure.
Running From the Camera
by Kelly on October 16th, 2007

I’m in the process of organizing all my pictures into albums. I think I will be in the process of doing this forever because I have so many pictures and they are completely disorganized by year and event. As I’m looking through all my old pictures I realize how many I have of me posed, smiling for the camera. Some pictures I can’t even tell where I was except for who was with me. I especially like the pictures of me hugging all my friends smiling for the camera, faintly in the background I see the Builtmore Estate, clearly a side note of this trip with my friends. Even on my trip to Italy I’m surprised by how few pictures I have of landmarks that I saw, and instead I am smiling ear to ear sitting at dinner with my best friend…side note of the picture, our leftover food. At least I will remember that I had fun on all these trips, right? Alot of families also take pictures using the auto function of the camera and the pictures end up looking a little candid. The blogger didn’t even bother turning around for the picutre in Runningfromcamera.blogspot.com. The focus of the blog is for the blogger to turn on the self-timer for 2 seconds, push the button, and try to get as far away from the camera as he can. The pictures turn out pretty clearly and are pretty interesting. The shot that I posted is from Singel, Amsterdam, but he has a lot of locations posted on his blog. Maybe I should start running from my camera so that I will focus more on my destinations and less on smiling in every picture.
Good Reads
by Kelly on October 4th, 2007
Social networking sites seem to be taking over for a youthful audience that eagerly awaits the next new feature or application. Although Myspace and Facebook have a wide variety of users, just as quickly as users flock to the new application they are also distracted by other new social networking websites. I stumbled onto Good Reads while looking up a book on amazon. Like all social networking sites, Good Reads allows you to invite friends, screen potential friends, keep tabs on friends, and create a personalized profile to show everyone that you are very hip and cool. While other sites are not particularly thematic or the themes seem like an after thought, Good Reads is very specific that the site helps you learn about books. Readers list and review books that they have read and organize their books into groups. You can browse the books your friends have read and make suggestions on books that may interest another reader. Books are ranked on a 5 point scale so that users can find out how people felt about a particular book. The sign up process doesn’t take long at all and as I was browsing the website reading reviews it was easy to click on a book that it would take me directly to amazon to buy.
